There are few things more exciting than the buzz of an idea breakthrough, or simply experiencing new perspectives and ideas within your own writing.

Having taught literature at university level, I discovered how critical literary analysis not only increased appreciation for writing but also opened the doors for the personal creative process. When I facilitate a writing group I introduce thematic strands to help push people beyond the comfortable confines of prompt writing. Instead we may use myth and legend, music, sound, poetic form, or even animals, as a starting place for stories and poetry to take shape.

Kids Workshops

Poetry and the Five Senses

A workshop focusing on engaging all the senses through visual and audio prompts. In this workshop every student writes their own poem that they can choose to turn into a stand-alone piece or expand into a story-in- verse of their own.

Writing Animals

In this workshop, we will look at different ways in which authors and poets write animals in their work. Students will have the opportunity to write an animal of their choice from different perspectives, learning how to look at, listen to and build on their own empathy in order to write convincing animal characters.

Writing with Music

We might not realise it, but music permeates our lives. Whether we listen to it intentionally or are only aware of it on the fringes, in the background of our favourite films and shows, music has an important influence on our daily lives. In this workshop, students will learn about how we can tap into different emotions in our writing by listening to various types of music.. They will write their own individual, musically inspired pieces using audio prompts and classroom discussion.
